KISS for Aaron’s 21st Happy Birthday!

For a mom like me who is so fond of long sentences, letters, and reports; extended talks; nonstop questions, incessant reminders, repetitious nudges, persistent nags – for a change, here’s a KISS (keep it short and simple) greeting to the best son in the world.

Aon, while you claim to be a stylist midget manorexic geek and graphic pimp, I believe you are and can be, as your name Aaron connotes: the enlightened (inter disciplinarian), a shining light (in dark, drab and dry times), a high mountain (of potentials, though being 5 ft 7 in will remain to be a dream), and a God-sent messenger (of peace and love to our family and others through your blogs and designs).

It would be a pride for me as a mom to talk about your attributes and achievements. But, for your 21st birthday, I’ll give you a break from my usual talky style. I recall the song “When You Say Nothing At All” which you chose for a mother’s day theme at Ateneo when you were in Grade 3. I’ve tried but have never been really quiet; you’ve always been. Thanks to the recent invention of blogs; even without much talk, I can now connect with what you are going through and make the best out of our less frequent bonding times.

Here’s to you Aon, my quiet, artistic, and sensitive son:

“It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don’t say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There’s a truth in your eyes
Saying you’ll never leave me
The touch of your hand says, you’ll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all…”

Happy happy 21st birthday! May you have more blessings and experience life’s true colors as the years go by.
